Itinerary:
Day 1 Arrival to Costa Rica
Welcome by our guide and transfer from the International Airport to the Hotel in Orosí, Cartago. Accommodation at the Rancho Río Perlas Hotel.
Day 2 Tour to the Tapantí National Park and Orosi Historic Ring
Breakfast at the Hotel. This half-day excursion offers the tourist a package of two great attractions: it allows him to be in contact with the rain forest and its numerous features as well as to relax in the natural surroundings.
As if it were not enough, you will visit the Orosi Historic Ring, where you will make a stop to visit the "Los Novios" Waterfall, the Ruins of Ujarrás, the Cachí Dam and la Casa del Soñador (the House of the Dreamer). Accommodation at the Rancho Río Perlas Hotel.
Day 3 Orosí Valley - Turrialba Volcano
Breakfast at the Hotel. Private transfer from Orosí to the Turrialba Volcano, where you will be surrounded by the Irazú and Turrialba Volcanoes. In the afternoon, you will walk through the tropical cloud forest and see the Old Lava Flows of the Turrialba Volcano -small and new headwaters today that run downhill over huge magma rocks.
The journey will follow the tropical path called "Camino de Gobierno" (Government Road), which was used by our ancestors to travel from the Central Valley to the Caribbean plains.
Besides the natural beauty, which is the forest itself, the tourists will also be able to glance at the different local crops of the region as well as all the pastures used for raising dairy and beef cattle. On a clear day, it will be easy to take a full look at the Central Volcanic Mountain Range, seeing also the Turrialba, Irazú, Barva and Poás Volcanoes in all their splendor. Day 4 Las Pailas Sector - Turrialba Volcano
Breakfast at the Hotel. This area has an impressive vegetation as well as wildlife typical of the cloud tropical forest and the rain tropical forest. The trail will take us through the border with the Braulio Carillo National Park -at 2700 meters above sea level, to a location known as "El Mirador" (the Viewpoint), where we can enjoy unique sights, in the depth of the forest and its gorges of rivers, such as el Río Sucio (the Dirty River) and el Toro Amarillo (the Yellow Bull) that cross the National Park. Besides, the four most important volcanoes of our country -Turrialba, Irazú, Barva and Poás, that make up the Central Volcanic Mountain Range can be seen in all their splendor. In the afternoon, the Turrialba Volcano will allow you to explore the interior of its crater in a journey that will take approximately one hour and a half, in a forest typical of the paramo (tiny vegetation). You will ascend to the peak of the volcano, where you will have the opportunity to appreciate one of the best panoramic views of this country at 3328 meters above sea level. A short list of some of the visible sites from this place includes the Irazú, Barva and Poás Volcanoes, the Pacific and Atlantic coasts and all of their plains, the Central Valley and the highest mountain chain in the country: Talamanca, located south of the Turrialba Volcano. Day 5 Turrialba Volcano- Sarapiquí
Breakfast at the Hotel. Transfer to Sarapiquí. Upon arrival to the hotel, you will be able to visit the Butterfly Garden, where you will witness the growth process of theses multicolored insects and the metamorphosis they undergo from being inside the cocoon to turning into a butterfly. Accommodation at La Quinta de Sarapiquí Hotel.
Day 6 La Selva Biological Station - Sarapiquí River
Breakfast at the Hotel. Guided walk with naturalist guides through the rain forest, where you will find a wide variety of flora and fauna, species such as peccaries (wild pigs), agoutis, coatis, sloths, howling monkeys and spider monkeys are frequently seen as well as diverse habitats. Over half of Costa Rica's 850 bird species live in these lowlands as well as more than 70 bat species and five of the six cat species found in the country. Later, you will take a boat trip on the Sarapiquí River, where more than 200 species of beautiful birds, howling monkeys, sloths, crocodiles and river turtles navigating across the Sarapiquí River will be waiting for you on an unforgettable two-hour trip in a comfortable and safe motorboat. Day 7 Sarapiquí - Arenal Volcano - Sky Tram
Breakfast at the Hotel. Private transfer from Sarapiquí to the Arenal Volcano. The Arenal Reserve is a tourism service complex inside the tropical rain forest, which offers adventure tours, excursions, plant and birdwatching, research, entertainment and recreation for all ages. In the afternoon, a visit to the Sky Tram Arenal, which is located in a transition area between the rain forest and the Monteverde Cloud Forest -location of the Arenal Reserve. You can either enjoy the spectacular views of the Arenal Volcano and Lake from the Sky Tram or take a nice walk through the trails of exuberant flora and fauna instead. Whatever your choice is, you will always remember this reserve. Sky Tram is a 15 minute aerial tram tour through the rain forest to the "Miguel Angel" observatory, where you will have spectacular views of the Arenal Volcano and Lake as well as the Tilarán Mountain Range. Accommodation at the Arenal Observatory Lodge Hotel.
Day 8 Arenal National Park
Breakfast at the Hotel. Walk in the Arenal National Park through a well-protected secondary forest to see wildlife such as the spider monkey, white-faced monkey, howler monkey, toucans, golden orioles, among other species. The hike crosses a lava flow from 1992, but continues to steam, where tourists learn about the most important aspects of the Arenal Volcano. Accommodation at Arenal Observatory Lodge Hotel.
Day 9 Arenal Volcano - San José
Breakfast at the Hotel. Free morning to enjoy the facilities or the optional activities offered by the hotel. Later, transfer to the Central Valley. Accommodation at the Rosa del Paseo Hotel.
